While the script for the film was originally written in English, the director had the script translated to Yiddish the week before recording. Luckily, actor, Mike Burstyn has a rich background in Yiddish theater.
Fiddler on the Roof
The film's original soundtrack was largely inspired by the music the popular Broadway show, Fiddler on the Roof. It was written by Nikki Semenov and performed by the renowned violinest, Oren Tsor.
The hit Broadway show, Fiddler on the Roof, borrowed it's title from the subject of a popular painting by Marc Chagall titled "The Green Violinist". The design and color scheme for "The Fiddle"
were duly inspired by the works of Marc Chagal.
The animation for the film was done in the 2D technique. This involves drawing each and every from of the film. Since the film is 8.5 minutes long at a rate of 25 frames a second, that would involve 12,750 drawings. The animation was done using the program "TvPaint".
